Indigenous Treatment protocol of Lumpy Skin Disease

Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is an infectious disease of cattles caused by virus of Poxviridae family called as Neethling virus. Clinical Signs includes fever, superficial lymph node enlargement, nodular lesions on skin. The disease in known to cause chronic debility, fall in milk production, infertility in cattles, thus having devastating effect on farmers. In field condition, it is generally diagnosed by clinical signs and symptoms. As per conventional treatment protocol symptomatic treatments are provided which may include antibiotics, topical ointments, NSAIDs, vitamin-B complexes etc. I would like to share an indigenous treatment protocol which we have used and got effective results. We administered the mix of baking soda, Neem leaves paste and jaggery at 2:1:2 ratio and fed the cattles @250gm/head twice daily. This treatment along with conventional symptomatic treatment have been found to be beneficial as compared to conventional symptomatic treatment alone. It is to be noted that Indian system of Medicine, Ayurveda, claims that Neem extracts have anti-microbial and anti-viral properties.
