Case History: The owner reported through telephonic conversation that her 2 year old female rabbit have stopped taking feed and producing faeces since 10-12 hours. She further reported that the animal was restless and producing "gurgling intestinal sound" which is indicative of pain. The rabbit was only fed with green grass and biscuits meant for human consumption. The owner also reported that there is enlargement of abdomen which is indicative of bloat. She informed that she cannot take her to a veterinary clinic as the nearest well equipped clinic in nearly 150 km away. Tentative Diagnosis: Based on the informations collected, tentative diagnosis was thought to be GI Statis/Constipation. Treatments: As it was 11 PM and all the pharmacies were closed, the animal was initially stabilized with ORS ad. lib and coconut oil @3ml PO QID available at home. Vegetable oils like olive oil, coconut oil, mustard oil is found to be beneficial in treatment of both bloat and constipation. Next morning, combination of simethicone and liq. paraffin @3ml PO TID was administered along with previous regimens and chopped hay was provided ad. lib. By evening, constipation was fully relieved and appetence came to normal. The owner was advised to include hay in daily diet.
