A farmer called asked me to visit his cattle farm after he noticed the swollen abdomen of two of his Bulls. Panic was all over his voice, he's scared it could be something worse. I've mastered 3 methods of relieving bloat in large animals. These include passing an oesophageal/gastric tube, use of oil and thirdly using a troca and canular. I adopted the most preferred option, passed a gastric tube through the mouth and watched the gas flow free from the rumen outwards. The farmer smiled and was greatly relieved.
