Pasteurella multocida infection on humans

Pasteurella multocida is a commensal in the mouth and Respiratory tract Dogs and Cats. They are zoonotic meaning when they lick the wounds or scratched parts of the owner, they can infect. in normal immunocompetent person, generally, there will be localized infection and cellulitis. on the other hand they can cause septicemia, meningitis and endocarditis in old and immunocompromised person. so, to prevent this common sense procedure like cleaning the wound, covering it and preventing from getting licked are adviced.
