A case of ascitis in dog
6 year old male dog weighing 17.2 kg was presentedwith distension of the abdomen. As per the owner, the condition was noticed a week back and the animal's appetite was also mildly reduced as per the owner.mucousmembrane was mildly pinkish and therewas signs of respiratory distress with pyrexia of 104.7F. On ballotment, it was suspected as ascitis. So, we went for abdominocentesis in which we could withdraw harmorrhagic ascitic fluid as shown in the pictures and video below. For further confirmation, serum sample and peritonealfluid was send to the VLD lab for LFT and KFT test and ascitic fluid for examination of the type of blood cells. As we await for the result the followingemergencytreatmentwas given to the animal. 1. Dexona@1.5ml 1/m stat 2. 100 ml of ascitic fluid was tapped through abdominocentesisfollowed by Haemaceal @200 ml I/v 3. Ceftriaxoneinjection@20 mg /kg bwt 4. Melonex plus @ 0.5 mg /kg bw sos 5. Lasix tab @2 mg/kg bwt bid 6. Hermin@ 200 ml I/v od 7. Kip 10 @2.5 mg/kg bwt I/v at stat 8. Hepawin plus suspension@5 ml bid
