CHRONIC The CHRONIC DISEASE BRONCHIAL COUGH
- Persistent cough...several weeks
- Middle aged to older dog...
- No evidence of CARDIAC DISEASE
- No evidence of NEOPLASIA
- No evidence of PNEUMONIA

“BRANDY”: 8 yr old, Mc, Retriever
HX: persistent coughing for 5-6 weeks

11 year old, FeS, Pomeranian
Severe episodes of cough with “fainting spells”
Grade 2/6 Systolic Murmur
Temperature: Normal
Respiration Rate: 30 per minute
Heart Rate: 90 per minute
Treatment Strategies
- Cough Suppression
- Bronchodilator
- Long-Term Antibiotics
Rx: Prednisolone
0.25 to 0.5 mg/kg, oral, q12-24h
Treat for 7 to 10 days then as needed to control cough
